YES - Amen. This is how it needs to be done.

  I have no doubt that the Trinity cmake files will ultimately get tailored to
do this correctly. But I understand the priorities. These tweaks lie somewhere
on the time-line between:

Port all Modules           Tweak CMake files                  Finished Trinity
to CMake and               to ignore other                    3.5.13 Super
get building in            existing packages                  Desktop
clean environ              possibly present
