Well,

  Your just not as dumb as I am :)  Basket is my 2nd brain, so I had to fix it.
When Arch started stripping all .la files by default. I thought I had fixed
everything with a call to:

sed -i "s/options=(/options=('staticlibs' /" PKGBUILD*

  And I did fix all the PKGBUILD files -- at least the ones with an existing
'options=' tag in them. Seems that there were several that did not have option=
in them and were missed by the sed call.  Fixed now...
