After a long time I finally discovered the dialog was actually opening --- behind the blueman-applet window. I never saw the dialog.

I forgot to add that when I try to browse a successfully paired device, blueman-applet opens the files in Firefox rather than the designated file manager. In KDE the process used Konqueror. In Xfce the process opens the Thunar file manager. My guess is Trinity being in /opt is the culprit.
