Just pushed a fix for both (the "blue space" was caused by an earlier
sloppy "quick fix" for issues with the sidebar.  It's now been re-done 
properly.)

I'm going to move on now to prototyping various requests/suggested changes,
with Alexandre's gradient and header fixes being first in the queue.
