Thank you for the info; I had no idea as there is no such connotation in
English!  Dragons don't exactly have a good reputation in English though,
and crows even less so unfortunately.

No, there is no hard and fast reason for the mascot having to be a bird;
my thoughts were just that we already have a big flightless bird as the
Linux logo, and birds are lightweight and fast.
