Ah, OK, now I know what you are referring to.

That is not a problem in the file picker code itself; rather it is a
problem in the OpenOffice.org build options, which are set by the
distribution that provides the binary packages (in this case Debian).  Out
of courtesy to my Ubuntu userbase I have rebuilt OpenOffice with the KDE3
integration module turned on; no changes to the file picker code itself
required.

That being said, I understand this is not a long term solution.  I will
respond shortly to your other message with more information.
