To be honest, if the world was different then this would be a good idea. 
This might have worked back in the 1990s, when the Internet was somewhat
safer, but in today's highly litigated environment with hair trigger
prosecution you can't just randomly download links that are submitted to a
mailing list.  All it would take is for some idiot to send in a link to
illegal content, which would be automatically downloaded for processing,
to create a lot of trouble for the project.

For now, attachments are best.  Yes it is a pain, and if you absolutely
must you still can send links, but if you send links they will not be
processed quickly--you will have to keep sending reminders to us, as they
will not show up on patchwork.
