My preferred action is to have Kate notify me when a file changes, but I do not want KWrite to ever notify. Yet sometimes I want to use Kate and want to disable that monitoring. Sometimes I want to study a file under continuous change. I won't use Kate for that. For example, when I want to study the first part of a build log. Because KWrite seems to be tied to Kate KParts, KWrite notifies me when the file changes. So then I resort to KEdit. According to the Help file, Kate always warns about changed files, but changes the method of notification. I don't like that. There needs to be a way to view a file statically like the brain dead KEdit. KWrite needs its own setting that does not depend upon Kate KParts. I prefer KWrite over KEdit for syntax highlighting and a better search/replace interface, but I dislike being interrupted all the time. Is there a better way? Darrell
