I did some research and according to the KDE Forum Manager at: http://forum.kde.org/ the problem with ^$ was fixed in 4.6 beta 2 (about a year ago... it took them from vs 4.0 to 4.6 to fix that?????) The problem with regular expression searches involving \n was fixed in 4.5.2. So even though it took them several years they say they fixed it.
