Just to make sure we're discussing the same thing:

In Konqueror, Settings Menu, Configure Konqueror..., Behavior:

I enabled the "Show file tips" checks box and enabled the "Show previews in file tips" check box. I saw previews of files.

No such messages in the xsession log.

I'm using GIT from a few days ago.
