The opensuse boxes all broke during Oct. 2010 and that has never been fixed. I'm
fairly certain the problem is openssh >= 5.6. Since kde3 was a bastard child
desktop at that time, all bugs I filed with kde.org, simple got pooh-poohed on
the list and in the bug tracker. Robert & Serghei had talked about completely
re-writing the sftp kio when cmake transition was completed. I don't know
whatever became of that effort. But, I can confirm -- It's still needed :)
