  I've updated bug 797 with full debug reports of crashes from:

kwrite
kate
konqueror (katepart preview)
quanta

  There must be a common thread that can be teased out of the backtraces
somehow, but how? I'm anxious to get this one solved -- how should we proceed?
what else can I provide?
