Yes, and manufacturers sometimes get that badly wrong. And sometimes drive old customers away in the quest for new, without gaining the new. A non-manufacturing example: BBC Radio 4 decided that it needed to grow its user base to attract more young people. It brought in a great number of changes. It did not attract the young, but it drove many of its current listeners away.
