It is indeed not so hard to get this to compile against KDE 4.11 again.
I just pushed the mentioned Kicker port to GitHub with some fixes to get
it to compile and run against KDE 4.11.

Maybe I'll play a bit more with it when I have time. It would be nice to
see how kicker & kdesktop on KDE 4 would work. I don't think it could
replace Trinity in every single situation, but I think could be an
interesting alternative.
