The "shade" functionality is offered by some of the window styles and
basically reduces a window to the tile bar with a click of the mouse
and back with another click. "Stay on top" + "shade" is very effective
is you need to hide a window for a short time to see another window
below. If you need, I can make a screenshot when I am back on a TDE
machine.
