looks like no one picked up this question.
There was quite a bit of discussion in the past about translation, a couple of years ago or so.

mailing lists, you will definitely find more info.
If you are going to do some update to any package, I suggest you write down the commit number you started from. This
would help merge the changes in case some other changes are made to the code in the meantime, which could result in
different line numbers.
