I had this, when I failed (note missing submodule)

$ cat kplayer/.git/config
[core]
        repositoryformatversion = 0
        filemode = true
        bare = false
        logallrefupdates = true
[remote "origin"]
        url = https://anonymous@.../scm/git/kplayer
        fetch = +refs/heads/*:refs/remotes/origin/*
[branch "master"]
        remote = origin
        merge = refs/heads/master

When I have this it works (of course submodules checked out)

$ cat kplayer/.git/config
[core]
        repositoryformatversion = 0
        filemode = true
        bare = false
        logallrefupdates = true
[remote "origin"]
        url = https://mirror.git.trinitydesktop.org/gitea/TDE/kplayer.git
        fetch = +refs/heads/*:refs/remotes/origin/*
[branch "master"]
        remote = origin
        merge = refs/heads/master
[submodule "admin"]
        url = http://system@.../scm/git/tde-common-admin
[submodule "cmake"]
        url = http://system@.../scm/git/tde-common-cmake


only question left is the ssl one
