Not sure how you could have gotten a "later branch" than 3.5.10, unless
you included distro-specific patches that have not yet made their way into
TDE.  If so, I'd like to merge them into TDE.

Simple fact is, the official KDE 3.5.10 sources have broken shadows when
the compositor is turned off.  That was the main reason for the commit,
which I did in fact test and it did make the shadows work better on my
test systems compared to the stock KDE 3.5.10 sources.

At this point reverting the patch would reintroduce those problems, unless
I can then turn around and apply whatever changes were made to the version
that works properly for you....

As I said, a bug report is needed! :-)
